More Kebab Stores!

Second day in Berlin, saw more grafitti, saw more kebab stores!

It’s hard to resist the temptation to stare in Berlin, there are so many different styles and types of people here. Have you ever wondered what happened to Emo’s? You know the not quite goth, not quite happy kids from the 90′s? They all ran away and started living in Berlin, and the Berliners accepted them with open arms…. Cause mostly everything (as far as ive seen) is normal here…

Off to see Kate today to get a locals view of Berlin (well kinda, she’s only been here for two weeks, but she has a bike… So i guess that makes her kinda local!)

Fuck me Egypt is hot!

The tour has officially started, quite a large day yesterday visting the museum, sphynx, pyramids and papyrus gallery.

The museum brought back memories of when I was younger, and the books  I used to read of egyptian mythology – its amazing how much you forget!  The pyramids were an interesting experience – nearly got into a fight with a local camel guide… They tried to make us take a photo of them, when we refused they kept hounding us for ‘baksheesh’/tip.  It got quite aggressive… I understand why, as it is their livelyhood and they need to provide for their families…Our tour guide said that the tourism industry is currently at 20%…. Gutted.

Arrived at the Oasis hotel today – its nice to be away from the chaos of Cairo.

The Oasis hotel is close to the pyramids area, about 30 minutes away from the centre of the city. The madness of Cairo doesnt seam to end,  with block after block of dust, people and the unending tooting of horns – is this what all cities eventually become?  If you ever wondered where all cars eventually end up? They end up in Cairo…..

I have officially started my travels. Here we go!

We arrived yesterday in Cairo, only to find that our tour company had forgotten to arrange transfers for us (thanks enounters!). Not a great start but we eventually paid our way to New Garden Palace, our hotel…. Imagine the hotel from the shining, and the opening scene of Alladin and you should get a prett good idea of where we’re staying.

It feels like we’re the only tourist in town at the moment… When we do see ‘others’ , eye contact is held for a little bit longer, as if to say ‘you’re not alone….’. The peaceful moment between two foreigners is then broken with someone trying to sell me a wallet or silk scalf….More often then not, references to Jackie Chan, and Bruce Lee are made…Either crossfit is working, or casual racism is a joke that binds all nations together (ironic and profound…)

Oh I forgot to mention, we’re staying 500m away from Tahrir Square – some protesters got killed there a couple of days ago… (probably not the best time to visit at the moment) but Im sure we’ll be fine, as long as we stay away ;)
